Men's Black Biker Leather Jacket

The black biker jacket is the least original purchase a man can make and also the most defensible. Every attempt to replace it has failed, because the design solved its problem correctly the first time — the asymmetrical zip, the notch lapels, the close waist and the short body were all engineered for riding, and they happen to work on almost every build standing still.

What separates one from another is material, and this one is cut from real sheepskin leather. Sheepskin is softer in the hand than cowhide and breaks in considerably faster — the panels start moving with your shoulders within weeks rather than seasons, and the jacket ends up fitting the way you actually stand rather than the way a mannequin does.

The notch lapel collar fastens with snap buttons, so you can close it flat against the neck in wind or leave it open and let the lapels sit back. The asymmetrical zipper is the detail the whole silhouette is built around: set off-centre, it removes the bulk of a double placket and draws the diagonal line that makes a biker read as a biker.

Zipper cuffs close the wrists tight or open wide enough to clear a watch or a knit sleeve. Four external pockets handle everyday carry, and one internal pocket keeps a phone or wallet out of sight.

Soft polyester lining keeps it easy to pull on over a shirt or sweater. Styling needs no thought — white tee and jeans, a grey crewneck when it is colder, or over a shirt when you want it sharper.
