A removable hood is one of those features that sounds like a gimmick until you own one. Detach it and you have a clean shirt-collar leather jacket that works in an office or over a dress; snap it back on and you have something you can wear in the rain without thinking. Most jackets ask you to choose between those two lives. This one does not.

Real leather forms the shell, and it improves rather than degrades — the panels soften around your shoulders and elbows through the first season, then hold that shape. Soft polyester lining keeps it easy to pull on over a shirt or knit with no drag at the sleeves.

The shirt-style collar is what makes the hoodless version work. It sits flat and reads closer to tailoring than to sportswear, so the jacket does not look like it is missing a piece when the hood comes off. With the hood attached, the balance shifts casual — same jacket, two registers.
